Do it in style

Boy, was this a great trip down memory lane or what?
My crew had the best time on Friday on our return to Bobby's. It wasn't jam
packed, but the place, the people, the music, the entertainment was great.
The venue still looks pretty much the same. They've stripped walls in the bars,
but otherwise, the buildings and stuff are still there. Its still Bobby's.
We didn't take many pics, but there's some
here
There's talk that they might talk Rydges into letting them do it again some
time, so stay tuned.

Hey Party Animals,
Max Moose’s favourite club of all time, Bobby McGee’s, is back for tonight
only!
That’s a big call, especially seeing as we’ve seen everything in
Melbourne, a lot of America, Canada, Europe, the UK and every other city in
Australia, but Bobby McGee’s is the greatest.
Why? Because its unique and so much fun. We can’t
wait. Its going to be busy. They’ve presold even more
tickets than we expected
. There’s more info below.
Bobby’s is back just for tonight
Bobby’s is going to be great tonight. They’ve presold
hundreds of tickets already. MC Dean Thomas will be
running the games just like old times.
See the ad for more
details
. We can’t wait.

I loved Bobby's. It was just the greatest place ever so I can't wait for Friday.
I'm not so keen on the $25 ticket price but its only a one off. Its going to be
great to be back!

Big farewell party at Bobby's last Friday. Lots of the old staff and patrons
dropped by. The place was full, and there were plenty of memories shared.

This night is being slightly reworked and will reopen soon.

Biggest Friday crowd at Bobby's for a while. The Christmas season really brought
the after work office crowd out again. Good primarily 25-40 crowd.
Not quite like the halcyon days of two years ago, but on the right track.

Regulars to MAX MOOSE know that I am a Bobby's fan. They always put on a good show, with good entertainment for a classy crowd, and their Mondays and Wednesdays are two of the best nights in Melbourne. It is a great venue.

Fridays offers two nights in one. Early on it is home to the local office workers for their Friday night office parties. Later on, a more relaxed and slightly younger crowd rolls in to replace the suits. It is a good quality crowd, but it is a night that is rebuilding. A year or two ago it was packed, eight months ago it was struggling, but the numbers are returning now.

Being a largely after work crowd, people tend to drop by in suits or collar and tie. As the night progresses the jackets and ties start to disappear, but the full buttoned collared shirt is a must throughout the night. It does make for a good feeling crowd. It is also very friendly, as people are celebrating the start of the weekend. Most of the people are aged 25-45 early in the night, but later it is more 20-35s.

The first crowd comes in early, after work at 6pm. They continue to drift in for a while. About 9.30 or so, the crowd starts to changeover. Whilst it is not jam packed, it is always comfortably busy. Some nights are busier than others, especially when there is a theme night or a competition or something. The model search was a winner.

It is the size of the place that makes it work. It is reasonably small, one room, on one level, with a small submerged dancefloor in the middle, below the accessible DJ booth. The lighting is quite impressive. The surrounds are interesting, made to look like a city in itself; it looks good, like some places I saw in Queensland. There are a few video games, and a little seating as well. The focus is definitely on the dancefloor.

This goes mad to a mix of everything. There are a lot of retro and party classics, heaps of current top 40, and a bit of heavier dance thrown in. There are also the traditional sing-alongs to various songs like Jack & Dianne, as well as a few dances like Staying Alive, led by actors dresses in theme. I did not see anything like the name the song game or basketball, but that may have happened before we arrived.

You get all of this for just $5 entry and the drink prices were good.

Bobby's Friday is an excellent for those working in the CBD. It is a great after work crowd, and a bit of fun.
