About MAX MOOSE

MAX MOOSE was initiated in an effort to keep Melbourne informed on the local entertainment scene. Nightclubs were the logical starting point considering Ben's love of clubbing, and his work within the nightlclub industry since 1995. He understands how hard it is to find a club that you are going to like. This site is designed to make it easier.

It was titled MAX MOOSE, because we reckon Mooses are pretty cool. They are big & stong, but very unique, and funky looking. Mooses have been a big part of Ben's life, since he made a Moose the mascot of Millett house, which he captained at high school.

Club History

At eighteen I was not big on going out, and I knew nothing about music. I was a student and not much else, but I loved socialising. Now I go out everywhere, and recommend music to nightclubs.

My first club experience was at the Hallam Hotel, and I got nothing out of it. My second was a nightclub tour at eighteen, and again it was nothing special. It was not until I started writing for Lots Wife at Uni in 1995 that I found a club I liked. A couple of the editors were hosts at Metro, and one worked the door at Silvers. I liked both, and it grew from there.

In 1996 I became involved with the Uni Activities collective. We put on all the social events, and I shared the role of nightclub liaison with Peter Allen. We worked with about twenty clubs across the year. This led to my personal involvement at a number of clubs, and my start as a promoter.

I started with a small, underfunded club called Flame, out at Narre Warren. This was a great learning experience, and a lot of fun. The regulars called the club their own, but there was never the money to buy a big crowd. Instead we ran the world's greatest collection of theme nights. Shortly after that, Pete set me up with The Redhead, and my career blossomed.

The following year, I took over the nightlcub liaison role on my own, and expanded it to about fifty clubs. In a service to the clubs, I started consulting them on how to attract uni students, and gained a bit more work out of that.

Then came Rosie’s; A small club that employed me to launch the club. The launch was extremely successful, but a disagreement with management over the club's direction saw me leave, and most of my people followed. Suddenly their competitors offered me incentives just for showing up.

Since that time, I have consulted with clubs on all sorts of issues. This is a service which I am keen to continue as part of MAX MOOSE.
