Hey party animals,
Your votes are in and counted. Thanks to those who voted, the response
was huge. Its time to reveal what Melbourne’s most popular nights really
are, as voted by you, the party public...
Best Night: Twister, Saturday @ The Palace
Twister remains undefeated! It has won this each of the three years we've
run these awards. Great work Warren and Ugly. One Love @ Prince came a
very close second with Casey's Tuesday and Billboards Saturday very close.
Best Venue: Billboard
Billboard won this by a big margin. The Palace (Twister) was a good second
with Seven, Marquee and Daveys taking honourable mentions.
Best Coverband: Adam12
Like Twister, Adam12 did the hat-trick. They won by a mile with 23 Past,
Play-Doh and Louie and the Party Boyz being next best.
Best Suburban Venue: Tie: The Drink & Blitz
All those votes and we couldn't split The Drink and Blitz. The Edgy, Dakota
and Pool Room deserve honourable mentions.
Best Pub: The Hawthorn
The Hawthorn has gone back to back! Bridie's South Yarra, Elephant &
Wheelbarrow St Kilda and The Wheelers also polled strongly.
Best New Venue: The Drink
The Drink romped it in. A massive, and well deserved win. QBH, CQ and Eve
also polled well.
Best Suburban Night: Blitz Saturday
Gee this category was close. Blitz Saturday shaded Dakota's Saturday by
just one vote! The Wheelers' Thursday was a close third with Drink's
Friday and The Edgy's Wednesday not far behind.
Best New Night: Saturday @ The Drink with Louie & The Party Boyz
Just so close again. The Drink won this by a couple of votes from Metro's
Saturday. A similar margin back to Famous (QBH Sat). Odeon's Monday and
Drink's Friday were also extremely close.
Best Uni Night: Billboard Thursday
I can't tell you how close these are. Billboards only just topped Casey's
Tuesday. They had a bit of a break over Daisey's Thursday, Berwick Inn
Thursday and The Edgy's Wednesday.
Best Band Night: Friday @ The Drink with Adam12
This wasn't so close. The Drink with Adam12 won this well. Wheeler's
Thursday (Metrik), Elephant St Kilda Saturday (Play-Doh), Dakota Saturday
(Pean) and Pool Room Thursday (Adam12) deserve honourable mentions.
Best Mainstream Night: Twister, Saturday @ The Palace
Billboards Sat pushed Twister all the way on this. Dale & Danny's Saturday,
The Drink's Saturday and Billboard's Saturday were all close by.
Best Retro Night: Twister, Saturday @ The Palace
No surprise that Twister won this too. There was a bit of a margin back
to Marquee's Saturday and Friday. Boutique's Friday was up there too.
Best RnB Night: Detention Centre, Friday @ Billboards
DC just got up to beat Twister's RnB Room. It was a good competition
between the two. No other RnB night was worth mentioning.
Best House Night: One Love, Saturday @ Prince of Wales
One Love got the undefeated hat-trick too; and quite comfortably.
Twister's new house room did well, and also in the running were Q-Bar's
Saturday, Room's Thursday and Billboard's Saturday.
Best Tek Night: Twister, Saturday @ The Palace
Very similar to last year. The back room at Twister did it. It romped in
ahead of Bubble. Not much else polled.
Best Alternative Night: Switch, Saturday @ Caseys
Not a heap of votes in this category, but Switch just got up over Next and
Brown Alley's Saturday.
Best Sunday Night: Star Bar with Slumberyard
An undefeated hat-trick for Star's Sunday too. Elephant St Kilda and
Bridie's Brunswick picked up a few votes.
Best Monday Night: HiP @ Odeon
Not surprisingly, the night we run, HiP, romped it in. No other Monday
polled multiple votes.
Best Tuesday Night: Casey’s/Cheers Toss the Boss
Casey’s won this easily over Room, with Berwick Inn coming a strong third.
Best Wednesday Night: The Edgy (Mentone Hotel) with Metrik
The Edgy with Metrik smashed the competition here. The Drink's short lived
Wednesday with 23 Past polled a few and Odeon's new Wednesday with Louie &
The Party Boyz polled strong late. Aracadia (Adam12) and Frost Bites
picked up a few votes.
Best Thursday Night: The Wheelers with Metrik
Gee, this was tight. The Wheelers with Metrik just pipped Billboard. The
Berwick Inn, Pool Room with Adam12 and Room were all competitive.
Best Friday Night: The Drink with Adam12
A total change from last year. The Drink with Adam12 won by quite a margin
over Davey's with Element. Billboards and Frost Bites were up there too.
Best Saturday Night: Twister @ The Palace
Twister was well challenged by The Drink and One Love (Prince). Billboard
and The Hawthorn (23 Past).
Classiest Night: Three way dead heat
Like last year, not a lot of votes in this category. Boutique's Saturday,
One Love (Prince Saturday) and Eve's Thursday tied. Eve's Saturday and
Boutique's Thursday weren't far behind.
Best Looking Crowd: One Love, Prince Saturday
One Love won this quite comfortably. Billboard's Saturday and Eve's
Saturday were competitive too.
Best Place to Pick Up: Toss the Boss, Tuesday @ Casey's
Casey's Tuesday just pipped Twister. Seven's Thursday wasn't far behind
either.
Best New Coverband: Element
Element stood out from the pack in this poll. None of the others in the
top five were really new bands except maybe 23 Past - last year's winner.
Most Improved Coverband: 23 Past
23 Past won this quite well, and so they should have. Adam12, Element,
Metrik and Play-Doh also polled well.
Best Coverband Website: Adam12
Adam12 took this one too. 23 Past, Element and Louie & The Party Boyz
also received good votes.
Best Venue Website: Billboard
Billboard won this well over Twister. Dakota (one of ours) was a
comfortable 3rd with Marquee also polling well.
Best DJ: Four way dead heat: Scotty E, Grant Smillie, Matty G & John Course
Four DJs dominated this and all polled exactly the same number of votes.
Scotty E might be unlucky because there were a lot of people that said DJ
Scott without saying which one.
Best Bartender: No winner
This category might be scrapped next year. Nobody polled multiple votes,
possibly because people don't know bartenders' names.
Best Bouncer: Tie: George @ The Wheelers & Andrew @ Dakota
George @ The Wheelers has gone back to back, but has to share this with
Andrew @ Dakota.
Best End of Night Snack: Tie: Hotdogs @ Blitz & Hotdogs @ Twister
Hotdogs are the people's choice. Blitz and Twister are the best apparently
and Marquee's hotdogs were a very close third.
Best Promotion: Toss the Boss
Toss the Boss, creation of Casey's on Tuesday was voted the best promotion
by a very big margin. A few people liked passwords and drink cards.
Summary
Congratulations to our winners. Twister will be celebrating! They cleaned
up for the third time (three for three). The Drink, Billboard, Blitz, One
Love, The Wheelers and Adam12 ought to be pretty happy too. We think the
voters got most categories pretty well right.
