This review was of Brown Sugar at Silvers. However, it night now runs at ZOS on Thursdays, and has gone to Metro's Boom Boom Room on Fridays (1.1.02?)

When one hears the word 'clubbing,' the image that most readily appears in people's heads is of fast, furious beats, ravers and strobe lights, a night full of non-stop energy. And while thousands of people find this scenario so enticing - many others do not.

If, alternatively you prefer smooth tunes that are full of funk and fun to dance to, instead of hours of physical sweaty exertion, then Silvers is definitely the place for you.

Situated at 445 Toorak Rd, Toorak, Silvers is only a few minutes drive from the city and is easily accessible from Toorak Station. As you walk in and past the admissions desk there is a bar to your left and toilets to your right. As you continue on and pass the stairs to the basement, there is another bar and more toilets to your left. As you continue even further you will reach the first dance floor.

As mentioned before, the stairs lead to the basement which is the biggest RnB room I have encountered in any club in Melbourne so far. As you reach the bottom of the stairs the cloakroom is at your immediate left and another large bar can be seen if you continue straight. This room is highly favourable for a few reasons- the music is excellent all throughout the night and there are two huge fans that circulate around the dance floor and keep its inhabitants cool all night long. A far cry from several other clubs when if you don't drink every 3 minutes you're almost dead from dehydration!

I must admit that of all of the clubs I frequent at, Silvers is by far my favourite. And although the main reason for this is my taste in music, I must also admit that the atmosphere at this club is the most friendly I have encountered so far.

So if you're into RnB/Hip Hop and Funk, I highly suggest that you get down to Silvers on Friday nights. You won't regret it!

Silvers Nightclub, situated at the Trak Centre on Toorak Road, is in the heart of Melbourne's trendy suburb of South Yarra. A two story complex, Silvers has been operating Brown Sugar on Friday nights. Showcasing live RnB acts from Australia and overseas and the funkiest resident DJ's in Melbourne's RnB social set.

Silver's has been running an RnB night for a number of years, firstly starting on a Sunday night with DJ Ray Shirley and more recently moving to Friday Nights run by the popular promotions team called Midnight (Mothership, Mercury Lounge, Sundays).

Brown Sugar at Silvers attracts a variety of people (age and race) but the one thing that they all have in common is their love of Funk, RnB and Hip Hop. Dress Code is Smart Casual with people obviusly dressed to impress. No blue denim allowed.

The doors open around 9.00pm with the ground floor offering a separate bar and café (Jac's Bar) and inside the club a DJ pumping out older RnB with a small dancefloor and Bar for refreshments. The lower level dancefloor and bars open around 12.00pm with most of the crowd relocating to this area which offers all the latest RnB and Funk being played from the numerous DJ's located at the console at the front of the dancefloor.

Entry fee is around $11 but is a little cheaper if you have Brown Sugar passes which are handed out at the end of each night. This can be used for any Friday night. The most popular time to arrive at the club is around 12.00pm but beware as there may be quite a queue. To avoid crowds try to arrive either around 11.00pm or after 1.00am.

A variety of drinks are on offer ranging from your average beer to your most luxurious cocktails. Prices vary, with your average mixed drink being around $6.00.

So, if you are looking for an exciting night with funky music and people make your way down to Brown Sugar at Silvers.
