It was relatively late, and we couldn't find anywhere without covercharge, and we needed somewhere to drink. We staggered across this little venue, and it took a bit of courage to enter. The place is focussed on three things; cheap drinks, karaoke, and pool tables. Like most of the places in the Adelaide building, it is a narrow two story venue. Downstairs are the pool tables, karaoke and bar. Upstairs is a little nightclub.
You enter at ground level. To the left is a set of stairs up to the nightclub. To the right are two pool tables and a juke box. Beyond that is the bar (love that leopard-skin top), which has a few couches around it. At the far end of the room is a dancefloor and a stage that hosts the karaoke. Between karaoke sets the DJ (running the karaoke show) takes requests but plays mainly pub classics, alternative, and a few party favourites. You tend to hear a lot of Barnesy, Chisel, AC-DC and other ocka tunes.
It sorts the crowd that you find in there. The age varies from about 18 to 30, and dress code is anything goes. Jeans and black t-shirts with alternative band logos is fairly normal, although a few people are there more of a normal karaoke crowd, and dress more respectably. It was, however, fairly quiet.
The club upstairs is a little unexpected. It is fairly small, and probably only utilises half of the space available, the half at the front. The dancefloor is in front of the window. There is a bit of a stage for people to dance on, and some club lighting. The DJ seemed to be playing some pretty cool tunes, fairly current commercial dance and top 40 with some real classics thrown in. The crowd in this room was pretty respectable, but most of it was overflow from ICBMs, and it was pretty empty.
There is a crowd out there for this place. Some people will go for cheap drinks, Aus rock and karaoke.
