Readers of MAX MOOSE Melbourne will know that Bobby McGees Melbourne is probably my favourite club anywhere. Of course, when in Canberra I have to go and make the comparison, which is probably unfair given the relative size of the cities. However, Bobby's Canberra does okay. The venue has all the Bobby's hallmarks, great music, fantastic type of crowd, interesting decorations, and a very busy Monday night.

I suspect their crowds vary fairly widely between different nights of the week. Monday is an industry/uni crowd, with a few tourists as well. As such, most of the crowd was aged 18-23, but there were a few in their late 20s, and even tourists into their 40s. Most were pretty well dressed, although the slightly Hawaiian feel about the place meant a few were wearing very dodgy Hawaiian shirts. It is also a fairly friendly and easy going sort of a crowd.

The night we went there, it was packed. We didn't arrive until well after midnight, and there was still a massive queue. Inside was fairly tightly packed, even very late in the night it stayed packed.

The venue is one big room broken up into two parts. To the left of the entrance is the big bar and a few spots to kick back and talk with friends. To the right is the dancefloor. It is not a huge venue, but by Canberra standards it is. Like all Bobby McGees venues, it is a theme bar. It feels fairly tropical, Hawaiian or even Gilligans Island. The roof is blue, the walls have little buildings built into them, like a fisherman's shop or something. Some of these little buildings have space for six or eight people to sit in.

The venue enjoys typically Bobby's music, party, top 40, commercial dance, and favourites. The DJs were having a good time, and so was the crowd. Not sure if they have performers like they do in Melbourne to lead the crowd in singalongs and dances.

Bobby McGees is one of the highlights of the Canberra nightclub scene, and a whole lot of fun. Go and take a look.
