Hey Luke, I think I'm right to say that the time had just come and one of the boys (Vid?) was heading overseas for a while.

Sunday @ Star (Bar), The
Dropped by Star on Sunday for the first time in a while. It was great to be
back.
It was a very good crowd and lots of fun.
Matty G and Slumberyard had the crowd rocking downstairs and Brad and friends
were mixing up house tunes upstairs.
It was good to see Slumberyard again. Some of the people in this forum who have
been debating what bands should play should go and see the Yard. They are
playing band music- and loving it.
Star on Sunday is still a great night out. If you are looking for a place to go
on Sunday, look no further. Ben Clissold, MaxMoose, Thu Feb 2 05:22:05 2006

Sunday @ Star (Bar), The
Star Bar Chick, Id have to agree with Nick, slumberyard are one of the best
bands out there. Forget the vocals and song choices, Slumberyard have always
known how to involve the crowd, even back at the Depot-Thursdays days.
Theres nothing worse than a stuck-up band at an ordinary pub (i say pub because
technically thats what most 'clubs' which use cover bands are) who think they
are out of reach celebrities.
Overall Star Bar Sundays is a great night, and Slumberyard have something to do
with that

Possibly the maddest band in Melbourne. Their playlist is probably the hardest
rock/alternative list in town, and they do it with attitude. Lead singer Vid
just goes nuts on stage, and has for ten years now, but they remain fresh. Ben Clissold, MaxMoose, Mon Mar 7 08:54:27 2005
I was just going to update the existing review of Slumberyard, but they have improved so much over the past couple of years, that I really had to write a new one.
Slumberyard are probably the best alternative band going around Melbourne at the moment, and are still the craziest and most energetic. They have fun, and make the crowd have fun with them. In fact, of Melbourne's strictly alternative coverbands, they probably draw the best crowd reaction these days.
Their playlist is broad. They play few classics like Metallica's Enter Sandman, follow it up with a power song like Tool's Stinkfist, throw in a ballad, and then something in the charts at the moment. They play slightly more old stuff than some bands, but they play it well, and the crowd loves it. New songs are always harder to cover accurately, and whilst they do play some, their leaning towards favourites makes them more accurate than they used to be when they played more current tunes.
They are a four man band (I think), but the front man doesn't play an instrument (aside from the odd blast on the trombone). How could he jump into the crowd with a guitar? They are still fairly young, and dress right for such an alternative occasion, with a slightly surfy edge. This style, and their playlist makes them ideal for a crowd aged 18-22, who want to burn some energy.
Their strength is crowd interaction. They love getting people up on stage, making them mosh, or giving them something to sing-along to. Whilst I haven't seen the singer stage dive for a while, I'm sure he still can, but only when the moment is right.
They get a crowd going better than most bands now, and that is reflected by the improvement in their reputation, and their following. They are now up on the top line of Melbourne's bands, and have a series of big gigs.
You go and see Slumberyard when you want to burn some energy, but sing along to some of your all time favourite alternative tunes.
Slumberyard are a crazy grunge/alternative cover band. I once saw the lead singer stage dive without a crowd to catch him. They once lost a big gig for obscene behaviour whilst people were finishing meals. It is insanity and energy that makes this band.
Their play list is usually pretty current, and fairly similar to Voodoo Surf Gods, with a lot of popular alternative. They are comparable on accuracy too, as they are not perfectly accurate to the original with either lyrics or sound. However, energy and crowd involvement are worth a lot to them.
The singers energy gets a mosh going, but on a quiet night, he will walk around the venue with a cordless mike and sing with the audience. When the singer moshes along, it is hard not to join in. However, despite being fairly well known, they do not draw as well as they might. They target the same surfy, male, 18-21 audience as the Surf Gods.
Still, they are good value. Maybe if they toned down a little, they would get bigger gigs, and grow into a first string band.
