Just wanted to say I went to Heat on Saturday night of Labour Day Weekend. I
was really impressed and surprised by how much it has improved. The music was
fantastic - I couldn't leave the dancefloor. I had one of the best nights for a
long time. Well done to the dj's finally playing some good music and the new
renovations make the place way better. I think it's good how there is free
entry before 11 too! I'm definetely gonna give it another try.
Lali, Sunshine, Fri Mar 12 17:17:07 2004

Went2heat saturday night and decided 2 use the clubbers guestlist here on the
maxmoose site. Some friends went in2 the club, so i told them what to say when
they got to the door. However the reception girl didnt know what they were
talking about. So they paid the full $17 to get in.When i got to the reception i
said that i was on the clubbers guestlist and the girl was like "what?" Another
girl came ova luckily and showed her the list that was right in front of her and
we got in for $8. Poor service.

New Concept: MY ROOM launches June 21
The idea is that you get an ID number, and can send messages to other ID numbers
from touch screens on to the big screen.
It is designed to make the most of current technological trends. Its like SMSing
people you've never met before.
It needs to be seen to be believed (this info was summarised by Max Moose).

NOTE: We would love you to update this review.

Heat Saturday night is termed “Let’s Dance at Heat” by management, and it really does stand up to its name. There is only 100% dance played this night and that’s why I like it. No other club plays dance all night and morning long.

The crowd are usually there to dance and that’s it; so for all you guys out there, like myself, who think these places are for picking up, forget it. Sure you may be lucky to find the odd “pearl” but you have to be either a mighty fine looking guy (dancer), or the DJ (Little joke there directed at DJ Andy who plays at Heat from 9:30pm - 12am). The ladies dress like queens in their royal robes (to match their attitudes:-)) and guy’s like kings in their clubbing wear. Be warned you will not enter Heat if you dress casually. It must be very smart casual or formal, no runners or denim.

The age of the crowd varies from late teens to 27 year olds. Very rarely, especially on dance nights like Saturday, will you find people over this age at Heat. The crowd arrives at 10pm and it stays fullish until 3am. It begins to fill at about 11pm, management then open the above viewing deck which overlooks the dance floor. When the entire place is going off, they also open the cage where professional or amateur dancers, like you and me, can dance. (Always a site to see there!) About 1am they sometimes have a magician who lightens the place up a bit by breathing fire via exhaling vodka, amongst other tricks.

It is basically a rectangular room, with a sunken dancefloor in the middle, a bar at one end, and a DJ at the other. The DJ appears to be temporarily set up, placed with mobile gear on a walkway, but this makes him accessible for requests. Above the DJ is the cage, where dancers perform. You can go upstairs to a viewing deck, much like Chasers, Warehouse, or Metro have above their dancefloors. There are two bars and some seating on this viewing deck as well.

The entertainment is based around music and dancers. You have to like dance. The DJ’s have good reputations, and put together a fantastic, out of this world mix. Add this to one of Melbourne’s best lightshows, including lasers, and you get a pretty vibey sort of room.

All of this comes at a cost. Drinks are not cheap, and entry is $10 ($6 if you get the pass). I think this is totally reasonable.

Heat's Saturday is great night out if you like a touch of pretentiousness in the crowd, laser lighting, magicians, and love dance.

Saturday is Heat’s most pretentious night. The crowd mostly aged 22+, dress up, making it feel like a fashion parade at times, and you often wonder how many people are themselves. Maybe they are just trying to keep up with the odd model or two you find in the crowd, as well as the celebrities. The crowd arrives early, with the queue starting around 10pm, and it stays fullish.

The three room club itself is good, although the main room looks a touch cold. At the front you have the pleasant cocktail bar, with heaps of lounge type seating. My friends and I tend to hang out in here, and just talk. Beside this, is a chill-out room. It has no bar, no sound, no vibe, just couches which stay very lonely.

Then you hit the main room. It presents very well, although it is very grey, and coldish. It has one of the best sound and light shows going around, combined with a Yarra view, and some seating along another wall. It looks good, but is not overly big, resulting in a crush as you try to move through the crowd.

You have to like house, techno, and commercial dance. The DJs have good reputations, and put together a good mix. Add this to one of Melbourne’s best lightshows and you get a pretty vibey sort of room.

All of this comes at a cost, however. Drinks are not cheap, and entry is $10. I think this is a little steep for the entertainment provided, but it attracts the crowd they want, and keeps undesirables away.

Heat’s Saturday is great if you like a touch of pretentiousness, and love house and techno. It is not really my scene, but queues from 10pm mean it is for many of you. One for house and techno fans.
