NEVERLAND FINALLY HAS A LICENSE!
It has been a long time coming. Here is their media release...
The licensee’s of Neverland believe that the mixed-use entertainment complex to be established at 32-48 Johnson Street, South Melbourne will set new industry standards for Entertainment in Melbourne, and even be recognized around Australia.
Neverland licensees, Mr. Warren Amster and Mr. Manual Sanchez, deliberately chose this location because of its proximity to the Melbourne CBD and Docklands, in-conjunction considering it’s isolation from residents.
Some major positives for this site include:
• No residential amenity concerns
• Abundant on and off street parking
• Stand-alone licensed destination venue
• Very close to Melbourne’s freeway network
Applications to various departments commenced on the project early 2006, and as of today, Neverland are still waiting to commence trade.
After the liquor licensed was ordered, management have spent the last 12 months of negotiations with the Department of Justice (Liquor Licensing) to compile the most stringent best practice patron management plans and operating procedures, approved by the Director of Liquor Licensing to effectively operate Neverland as the highest possible standard operating venue.
Neverland Licensee, Mr. Warren Amster, said the venue had several positive features relating to patron safety and best practice methods, especially when compared with existing licensed venues in Melbourne.
Some of the features are:
• In excess of 80 high-resolution security cameras operating in and around the premises. (In accordance with the recent Liquor Licensing legislation updates)
• An on-site taxi rank.
• Roving security personnel around the licensed premises and adjoining streets.
• Shatter-proof drinking glasses.
• An on-site Venue Compliance Manager to support the Licensee’s.
• Shuttle Bus services for patrons.
“In the pre-planning process with the project, the decision by the potential Licensee’s at the time was made to apply for day trading hours, as well as night, as we didn’t want the venue to just trade as a late night venue.”
Neverland is a mixed-use entertainment complex, and not just a nightclub. The licensee’s have never applied for a 24 hour liquor license as stated by the media. Contrary to media belief again, Neverland was never intentioned to be the largest capacity nightclub in Melbourne, and we are not.
When complete for trade, Neverland will be one of the most diverse state of the art venues in Melbourne that will be able to provide varied forms of entertainment/corporate events to the wider community. Neverland will employ up to 70 people with various skills and from diverse backgrounds.

NEVERLAND WILL CHANGE THE WAY WE ALL GO CLUBBING! THE DJ CONSOLE HANGS FROM THE ROOF! MASSIVE BARS! NOTHING LIKE MELB HAS EVER SEEN!
insider, Mon Sep 22 22:13:52 2008
NEVERLAND finally received its license!
Neverland is the long awaited superclub near the intersection of Citylink/Westgate Freeway and Lorimer St/Wurinjeri Way.
It originally sought a 5000 or 6000 license but planners knocked it down to 2000. After several months of stuffing around at Liquor Licensing (farcical Victorian Government department), VCAT once again overturned Liquor Licensing and have granted a 1500 license with a license for 2000 to be considered in six months.
Good outcome. Thank goodness they survived the months of unnecessary hurdles placed by various Government department.
All reports say the place is awesome. We can't wait to see it.

NEVERLAND
Here's a message sent on Facebook from the much anticipated Neverland...
LIQUOR LICENSING REFUSED OUR LICENCE , when every other expert including Licensing Inspector and the Panel Member from Liquor Licensing approved the application. So where off to VCAT again to get the licence just like we did with our Planning Permit.
Hang in there everyone wont be long!

Ren, Traffic never really regained the momentum that Wax and Transformers had before it. It just wasn't making enough money. I haven't heard anything about it lately. A lot of people are saying it won't do anything as long as The Drink is there. Some thought it might reopen to pick up the Twister crowd, but nothing happened.

Silvers Grand Magic Circus!
I'll review anything... Went to the circus last night. Very good fun.
Interesting choice of music, great lightshow, good dancers, tight outfits, no
bar service!
Seriously, it was very entertaining. Took me back to my childhood, but there was
entertainment for all ages, and something totally different for a good change of
pace. Only downside was that there weren't any mooses in the show, but there
were water buffalo and camels.
It is just off the Bypass near Fountain Gate until April 26. Shows are generally
at 2 & 7.30 Wednesdays-Saturdays.
Max Moose, MaxMoose, Fri Apr 16 07:39:34 2004
Stiffy, I think you might be referring to the european bier cafe in the city? If
so here's the deal, it's on the corner of exhibition and little collins st in
the city, it's run by the same people who do Elephant and Wheelbarrow and Bridie
O'Reilly's, and, no surprises here it's very similar to these two places, same
sort of crowd, beer list is similar in size (but instead of an emphasis on
english or irish beers there is, surprise surprise, an emphasis on Euro Beers
(or "biers") ) Coverband upstairs, main bar down the bottom ...

HOWL AT THE MOON
Go Leigh! (who I don't think I actually know)
It was fun. I dropped in with a couple of my Council colleagues, and a couple of
friends, and most of us thought it was great. It is very different, and probably
targeted more at 25s+, but at least one of the 20 y.o.s with me thought it was
brilliant.
For those who missed the earlier discussion, it is a duelling piano bar.
Pianists and comedians play requests and get the crowd involved in competitions.
Great staff in there too. The bartenders can flair (ie juggle bottles and
glasses) to add to the entertainment. Different.

HOWL AT THE MOON
New concept (for Australia) opens at Westfield Fountain Gate this Wednesday.
Howl at the Moon is a bar with two pianos head to head. The pianists/performers
get the crowd to sing-along, dance and join in competitions.
I've seen it all over America and it is great fun. We were going to bring it
back here ourselves, except that someone beat us to it. The Fountain Gate Howl
is the first in Australia, and should be great fun. Check it out.
Max Moose, MaxMoose, Tue Dec 9 08:08:25 2003
Nugget, or is that DJ Nugget? Wax has had more false starts than the bedroom
scene with the foreign girl in the first American pie. It seems to be as far
behind schedule as a Bracks Government project.
I know a band that was meant to commence a residency there September 24th,
but... We will wait and see. The word around the industry is that with that many
delays it will need to be good to match the lofty expectations the delays have
created.

Rush Bar just opened at 134 Toorak Rd Sth Yarra the old saloon bar has been
fully renovated and relaunched as Rush Bar and looks great with heaps of big
screens and tvs to watch all the sports events. Saturday nights rock with DJ
Brad Sassman spinning cool tunes until 1am. Its part owned by a St Kilda and
Hawthorn players so all the AFL boys get in there so the crowd is really cool.

Knox Ozone
- Lou Lou's
- KGB's
- Irish Pub (Forgotten the Name)
- Cue Sports
If you live locally (even if you dont) you should check out the new night life
at Knox Ozone (the renovated part of Knox Shopping Centre).
Lou Lou's - Mainly RnB/Top 40 hits, young crowd, $5 cover charge. Good Club to
go to if you know a lot of the people there. Majorally huge crowd on Thursdays
(especially at about 1, because all the people who went to the Wheelers go there
afterwards).
KGB's - Great place to start your night out. Yummy frozen beverages. Good
music, laid back. No cover charge.
Irish Pub - Hate it. If you wanna line up for an hour or so for an irish pub
that is tiny and crap, go for it. Its so small and hot in there and the people
are wanks. Costs between $5 - $10, cant remember.
Cue Sports - This place use to be daggy. Now on a Saturday night they have City
High, a group of Sydney RnB DJ's. Play a very good set and is worth checking
out. $6 cover charge.
